Why Straight Alpha Channels Outperform Chroma Keying
Chroma key green screen is effective for live-action human talent in studio settings, but detrimental for digital UI graphics. Messenger bubbles, hardware smartphone frame shadows, and font anti-aliasing rely heavily on translucent alpha values.
When applying Premiere Pro's Ultra Key or DaVinci Resolve's Delta Keyer to green backgrounds, translucent pixels are either clipped off (producing jagged, crunchy text) or tinted with unsightly green fringe spill.
Import Configuration in DaVinci Resolve Studio
When exporting your chat sequence from CineChat Studio, select ProRes 4444 (for macOS and studio workstations) or WebM Alpha VP9:
- Import the rendered .mov or .webm clip into your DaVinci Resolve Media Pool.
- Right-click the clip and open Clip Attributes.
- Under the Alpha Mode dropdown, verify that Premultiplied or Straight matches the project settings (CineChat exports clean Straight Alpha).
- Drag the clip onto a video track above your primary live-action footage on the timeline.
Import Workflow in Adobe Premiere Pro
In Premiere Pro, ProRes 4444 files with embedded alpha channels composite automatically. If you exported an uncompressed PNG Sequence (ZIP):
- Extract the ZIP archive into a dedicated project assets folder.
- In Premiere's Import dialog, select the initial frame
frame_00000.pngand check the Image Sequence box. - Premiere automatically interprets the files as a contiguous video stream at 24, 25, or 29.97 fps with pristine per-pixel transparency.
